Stacey Muhammad is an experienced arts educator who teaches documentary filmmaking to at-risk youth and has lectured at universities nationwide on a broad range of topics including hip hop, pop culture, media, film, social justice issues, and most notably, the history of Black women filmmakers in cinema.

CLASS SYNOPSIS: 

This intensive, interactive one-day class, meeting

once a month beginning August 2017

​is designed to serve the needs of the aspiring

and emerging filmmaker as well as those interested

in honing their skills in the art of​ filmmaking.


Students will gain an understanding of the requirements and process of the short form filmmaking process.​ Created with the intent of extending support, production education and mentoring services to aspiring & emerging filmmakers, this digital filmmaking course will cover the basics of writing, directing, casting, working with actors, self financing and distribution as well as how to bring your ideas​ to life.  


In part, this course will cover:

➤ The key elements and how-to’s of each phase of filmmaking (pre-production, production, and post-production).


​➤ Screenwriting - Clearing creative blockage; story structure, character development, etc.


​➤ Casting - Working with casting directors / casting recognizable talent.


​➤ Directing - Bringing the written word to life; Working with your DP, crew and talent.


​➤ Financing your short film - Finding funders, crowd funding, self funding, etc.


➤ How to effectively market and distribute your short film.


CINEMA AS SANCTUARY!

Filmmakers with a "work in progress" project are strongly​ encouraged to attend. This class will be a safe & supportive setting to share your​ work and receive feedback from an experienced instructor.  *All works must be shared with the instructor in advance*


Students will walk away with key tips and core tools of the craft of filmmaking.
